Musharraf`s lecture tour
THIS is apropos of Shams Z. Abbas's letter, “Musharraf's lectures why be jealous?' (Sept 15).
It's a matter of great pride and honour that one Pakistani is being asked to deliver lectures at the most prestigious universities of the world and at globally-recognised forums of people of fame and intellect.
Pervez Musharraf is at present the highest-paid international personality for delivering the lectures, and we Pakistanis should be proud of it.
Benazir Bhutto also had the honour. She was the most-sought-after and the second highest paid international personality after former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
I will request our political leaders and media anchors not to get jealous that Mr Musharraf is receiving $300,000 per lecture along with free first class travel and the best possible accommodation.
There must be something worth in Mr Musharraf that a university like Stanford has invited him to deliver a lecture.
During his lecture tour in the US the former president will be meeting the president of the US, Obama, along with many other serving and former personalities of the country, which is definitely a matter of honour for Pakistan.
Mr Musharraf belongs to a very learned family and he himself is very well read. His book, 'In the Line of Fire', remained in the list of bestsellers for many weeks, and its hoped that he will soon get his lectures published in book form.
