ISLAMABAD PML-Q Friday announced to oppose the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in the Parliament and elsewhere.
Talking to journalists at the Parliament House, President of PML-Q Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, said his party according to its stated policy would oppose the NRO.
'NRO was presented in the past in special circumstances, however, now it should be scrapped. We had also opposed this law and would do so now,' he said.
The former Chief Minister of Punjab asked the government to also table the names of those who benefited from the controversial law, saying that not a single person from his family or party had benefited from NRO.
Terming the law a stigma for the country's political history, Elahi said his party would denounce this law.
Referring to suspension of Faisal Saleh Hayat's membership, Elahi said his party had boycotted both the houses of the parliament because of Mr Hayat's suspension. However, he said his party had withdrawn their boycott decision as the NRO was going to be tabled and his party had decided to oppose the NRO.—APP
