Fair polls in Gilgit-Baltistan promised

GILGIT, Oct 22 Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gilgit-Baltistan Rahim Nawaz Durrani has reiterated his commitment to hold free, fair and transparent elections for the Legislative Assembly, saying that in this regard homework were being made to get the task done in a befitting manner.

Talking to Dawn, the CEC said that officials having good reputation had been deputed as returning officers in the region. The election was being held under the supervision of the judiciary in compliance with the directives of the prime minister of Pakistan.

He said that printing of ballot papers had begun at the Pakistan Printing Press Corporation which would be completed shortly and than would be distributed among the polling staff in different areas.

The elections are due on Nov 12.

Mr Durrani stated that it was duty of contesting candidates to keep eyes on the entire process and nominate energetic polling agents to help in holding free and fair election. He claimed that honest and efficient officers were looking after the election process.
