Snooker camp for World Championship begins

KARACHI, Oct 24 A 20-day training camp of cueists in preparation and build-up for the IBSF World Snooker Championship got under way at Karachi Club's Amir Bakhsh Billiards Hall on Friday.

Pakistan's top two cuemen National Champion Muhammad Sajjad and Muhammad Asif underwent four hours training and work out, PBSA President Alamgir Shaikh said.

Alamgir pointed out that he was personally supervising the training camp and will be assisted by an international referee, Shabbir Hussain Darulwala. He added that six to ten hour sessions will be conducted to get the players in top shape each day.

IBSF Snooker Championship is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad Deccan (India) from November 14-29.

He said due to lack of funds they could not arrange a coach to impart training and coaching to players.

PBSA Chief said after receiving NOC from Federal Sports Ministry, visa applications of the players of the team officials accompany the team, has been submitted with Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

PBSA Secretary Munawar Shaikh will be manager of the team while he will also attend the General Body Meeting of International Billiards and Snooker Federation to be held during the course of the championship. He said IBSF Vice-President Asghar Valika will also attend the meeting of the global body.—APP
