3 unseeded players reach Roshan Khan Junior Squash semis

KARACHI, Dec 22 At least three outsiders stepped into semi-finals in three categories ending the pretensions of seeded players in the second Roshan Khan Junior Open squash championship at Roshan-Jahangir Squash Complex on Tuesday.

The three include a Karachi-based wildcard Saad Shahid, a qualifier Hammas Ahmed Tarar, who also hails from Karachi, and an unseeded player Israr Ahmed (Punjab).

Saad stunned third seed M. Ayaz of the NWFP straight 11-9, 11-9, 14-12 to propel in the boys U-17 last four where he was joined by top seed Nasir Iqbal (PAF), second seed Salman Mohib (NWFP) and Faraz Mohammad (PAF).

Qualifier Hammas took 25 minutes to topple fourth seed M. Zain Rehman (Punjab) 11-5, 11-7, 13-11 to advance in boys U-11 semis. The other three who cruised in the last four include top seed Ahsan Ayaz (PAF), second seed Mehran Javed (PAF) and third seed Sumaid Rashid (Punjab).

Israr edged past third seed Hamza Bhatti 11-7, 12-10, 11-0 in a short span of 16 minute to move into boys U-13 semis.

Meanwhile, top seed Shaikh Saquib was stretched to limits before overcoming Punjab's Hamza Bokhari 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 in 72-minute encounter to advance in boys U-19.

Top seed and defending champion Zoya Khalid (ZTBL) opened her campaign when she demolished Sindh's Zahab Khan 11-2, 11-2, 11-5 to march into girls U-19 event.

Similarly, top seed Ayesha Zaffar registered a convincing 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 victory over Punjab's Kainat in girls U-15 quarters.
