Sher-e-Sialkot canters to second straight win
LAHORE, Jan 20 Fancied chestnut colt Sher-e-Sialkot showed an impressive turn of foot to register a comfortable success during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The unknown colt, ridden by Ahsan Khan, made a flying start and led the field to beat bay gelding Jal Thal by six clear lengths. Princess Adla and Sensational completed the frame among 15 runners.
This was Sher-e-Sialkot's second win of the career, following his maiden success last week.
The feature event, the Sahiwal Plate Class VI division II-B was annexed by second favourite bay horse Rough Tough who cantered home five lengths ahead of bay mare Daizzy Against All by five lengths. Filly Grayish finished third, one-and-a-quarter lengths back with the 80-100 favourite Jogi fourth among nine runners.
Fancied five-year-old chestnut mare Good Idea, who was disappointing in her five previous outings, at last made amends by winning the supporting and fifth race.
The 5-4 favourite Good Idea piloted by jockey S. Moin, maintained a comfortable lead through the 1,000 metres journey to win by three lengths from long chaser bay gelding Umair Prince. Chestnut Sikander finished third with bay horse Bashayeash fourth in a field of nine runners.
Four-year-old bay filly Kitten came from behind to beat blue-roan horse Raj Babu in the last 200 metres of the 1,000 metres race. The winner was forcefully ridden by riding boy Mazhar Ali while the 80-100 Raj Babu was very carelessly ridden by riding boy Pervez Bhatti.
Riding boy Mazhar Ali excelled among riders by bringing home two winners. He rode bay colt Arham Prince in the opener and the 5-4 favourite Kitten in the third race.
Punters had a good day when well-backed horses romped home in five of the six-event card decided in the afternoon.
Midway through the proceedings, the race-goers mourned the loss of veteran trainer Raja Tehmasab Khan who died of a heart attack the other day. The late trainer had served the equine sports for nearly three decades at the Lahore Race Club.
