Survey of buildings ordered in Multan

MULTAN, Jan 28 Commissioner Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi said that action will be taken against illegal buildings and constructions under a Supreme Court directive.

Presiding over a meeting of the Planning and Design Committee here on Thursday, he said builders had built shops and offices at spaces meant for parking lots. As a result people had to park their vehicles on roads.

He directed the director-general of the Multan Development Authority to conduct a survey of the city markets and submit him the list of illegal buildings.

The meeting was attended by DCO Muhammad Khurram Agha, MDA DG Tassaduq Hussain Bokhari, Director Planning and Development Dr Muhammad Aslam and officials of police, highway and TMOs.

The meeting also discussed the commercialization of 16 roads of the city as the MDA DG told the meeting that three roads, including Matti Tal Road from Matti Tal to Aziz Hotal, LQM Road, Vehari Road from Vehari Chowk to Cricket Stadium and MDA Road from Kalma Chowk to MDA Chowk had already been commercialised and there was a need to commercialise 16 others roads.

The commissioner however did not agree with the proposal and constituted a sub-committee that would conduct the survey of roads and colonies and collect suggestions from citizens regarding the commercialization policy. A seminar will also be held in which the MDA will present the master plan for Multan and suggestion will be invited from the public. —Staff Correspondent
