Fund for Swabi hospital termed insufficient

SWABI, Jan 30 The provincial government has sanctioned Rs4.5 million for provision of facilities to the District Headquarters Hospital, but officials say this fund is inadequate.

Sources told Dawn on Saturday that when the Awami National Party assumed power in the NWFP its lawmakers were briefed about facilities needed in the hospital and were appealed for provision of fund, but the process was delayed.

They said more fund was needed to meet the requirements like expanding some wards and purchasing latest equipment.

The sources referred to the children ward that only had 14 beds, saying how it could accommodate the large number of ailing children brought to the hospital. At times, they said, two or three children had to be accommodated on one bed.

COMPUTER LABS The Pakistan Army has completed construction of computer laboratories in 373 educational institutes in the public sector in the NWFP and tribal agencies.

An army team led by Colonel Nadeem visited the laboratories in government middle schools at Major Banda and Qaziabad in the Salim Khan Union Council and Mian Kili in the Kernel Sher Union Council here on Saturday.

Talking to journalists, Col Nadeem said work on establishing the laboratories and provision of other facilities was started in January 2009 and the entire work was completed in May.

Officials in the education department said the laboratories would boost computer literacy among students.
