Pakistan trounce Nepal 19-0 in hockey

DHAKA, Jan 31 Striker Wasif Siddiqui slammed half a dozen goals and Abdul Qayum four as Pakistan Whites got off to a fantastic start by trouncing hapless Nepal 19-0 in the 11th South Asian Games hockey competition at the Moulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Sunday.

After leading by 8-0 at halftime, Pakistan banged in as many as 11 more goals to open the competition with three points.

Scoring two goals in the second and third minutes of the first session, Wasif added another four in the 51st, 52nd, 61st and 67th minutes to complete a double hat-trick.

Abdul Qayyum netted four goals in the 12th, 40th, 58th and 62nd minutes. Zeeshan Ali (22nd and 31st mins) and captain Sibtain Raza (39th and 48th mins) scored two each while Zubair Ahmed, Mohsin Bilal, Abdul Khaliq and Naghman Ahmed scored one goal apiece.

Returning to international hockey after nearly 15 years due to not having Astroturf in their country, Nepal had no clue of how to stop Pakistan's regular onslaught.

Pakistan will take on host Bangladesh in their next match on Tuesday.—APP
