14 die in two Lakki, Kohat accidents

LAKKI MARWAT/KOHAT, April 21 Fourteen people were killed in two accidents -- one in Lakki Marwat and the other in Kohat -- on Wednesday. In Lakki Marwat, nine people were killed and as many injured in an accident on the Indus Highway near Malang Adda.

Officials and eyewitnesses said a truck coming from the Bannu side, in a bid to save a school student crossing the road, hit a passenger coach going to Bannu from Dera Ismail Khan. The coach was completely destroyed.

The bodies and the injured people were taken to district headquarters and city hospitals. Some of the injured, who were in critical condition, were referred to the Bannu hospital. Those killed included Nawabzada Mohammad Jalil Khan (headmaster of a government high school), Munawar Khan (Patwari), Sharifullah (a clerk in the education department), Mashal Khan, Mohammad Rafiq (coach driver), Akbar Din, Munawar Khan, and Mohammad Rasool (a school student).

Witnesses said that due to unavailability of space in the morgue, some bodies were kept on the floor in the city hospital.

Among the injured were Mohammad Salim, Waqar, Hazrat Bilal, Ikramullah, Irfanullah, Malik Taj Bibi, Mir Hassan, Umar Khan and Sakhi Rehman.

The Ghaznikhel police registered a case against the truck driver, who escaped after the incident.

The accident in Kohat occurred on the Rawalpindi road. Five people, including a child, were killed when a car fell from a bridge near Narikak while overtaking another vehicle.

Those killed included Mohammad Sakhi, Noorul Huda, Anzar Gul and Muslim Ayaz. The Gumbat police impounded the vehicle.
