DEVELOPMENT charges worth Rs150,000 were paid when plots measuring 500 square yards were originally allotted in Phase 8 of the DHA, Karachi.

Then in the name of 'additional development charges', the DHA forced the plot owners to pay another Rs500,000 on the plots measuring 500 square yards only two years ago.

There were protests in newspapers but to no avail. We were then told that those half-a-million rupees were the final charges.

But no, the DHA has again imposed charges amounting Rs175,000 on the plots measuring 500 square yards. This too in the name of 'additional development charges'.

Is anyone going to stop them from imposing repeatedly such charges if they are not checked?

Recently all DHA residents were served notices to pay Rs75,000 as charges for the refurbishing of nullahs that the DHA had built with a faulty design.

The Sindh High Court stayed those charges. I urge all the affected people to file a writ against these charges and get them stayed.

I am a retired man with no income. Where do I get the money from to pay such 'additional taxes'?
