KHAIRPUR: Irrigation men fail to plug breach in Khairpur

KHAIRPUR, Aug 19: The embankment of the Abul Wah developed a 20-foot breach at RD-24 near Wadda Pagria on Sunday evening, inundating standing crops.

The villagers informed irrigation officials but till Monday noon no official came to plug the breach.

Later, the Wah was closed from Rapri regulator.

The villagers were trying to repair the breach but till filing of this report the breach could not be repaired.

POWER FAILURE: More than half of the Khairpur town, including Abid Colony, Buttero, Ghari Pull, Unnar Colony, Serai Ghanwar Khan, Faizabad, Luqman, and Channa Goth, plunged into darkness.

The power failure was caused when an electric pole fell down.

A tractor trolley hit the electric pole, near Ghari Pull, on Sunday night.

The Hesco authorities had not restored power, till the filing of this report.

DISTRICT NAZIM: Khairpur district Nazim Ms Nafisa Shah was surprised to know that an important subject like history was not taught at the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, as there was no department of history in the university.

This was disclosed to her in the ceremony of awards distribution to the talented persons of the Khairpur district on behalf of the district government.

She said it was sad to know that the historical buildings of Khairpur, like the Faiz Mahal, the Kot Diji Fort, the Sessions Court building, the Circuit House and the Ghari Pull were being ruined due to lack of maintenance.

She further said she would send a protest note to the Governor of Sindh regarding the absence of the history department in the university.

HOTEL SET ON FIRE: Some unidentified persons set on fire the hotel of Mohammad Hassan Arain on the Shaheng-Halani Road in Mehrabpur on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, fire broke out in the house of Koro Faqir Kalhoro near Mirwah Canal in Thari Mirwah on Sunday night, reducing valuables to ashes.
