Lashkar kills three militants in FR Kohat
KOHAT, July 5 A tribal lashkar killed three militants and injured other two others in a clash in the Anar Khel area of Frontier Region of Kohat on Monday.
A tribal elder, who wished not to be named, told Dawn they had formed half a dozen parties each comprising 40 to 50 armed tribesmen to carry out search in the hilly areas where militants had taken refuge for the last several years.
On Monday, they launched an operation and killed three militants.
The action was taken in the wake of the killing of a tribal elder and his two family members in an explosion on Sunday morning.
GHALANAI A volunteer of a peace committee was killed and two paramilitary soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion in the Koang area near the Afghan border in the Mohmand Agency on Monday.
Soldiers and volunteers were jointly patrolling the area when the explosion occurred.
Security forces also defused three landmines in Khwaizai and Safi tehsils, officials said.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and another wounded when a low-intensity device exploded in a pickup truck parked at the bus stand in Bannu on Monday, police said.
The man killed was identified as Abdullah.
In South Waziristan, one soldier was killed and another sustained injuries in the Jenata village on Monday.
LANDI KOTAL Unidentified gunmen killed two persons in Bara, sources said.
They said Mutabar Khan and his friend were riding a motorbike in Akkakhel area when gunmen in a pick-up opened fire on them. Both were killed on spot. Reason behind the killing could not be known.
The Khasadar Force in Jamrud seized 335 bags of urea and impounded a number of vehicles at Bhagyiari checkpost.
Officials said the force stopped at least 10 pick-up vehicles and a passenger bus after receiving information about urea was being smuggled to Afghanistan via Torkhum border.
The impounded vehicles and drivers were later released after payment of Rs10,000 fine by each.
