Dadu villagers left at mercy of nature

DADU, Aug 25: The district administration has issued flood warning to residents of 50 villages sans any arrangements for their shelter and transportation. Some 35,000 people would be affected if floodwater entered into their areas.

The residents of Johi, Khairpur Nathan and Mehar talukas complaining about the official apathy wondered as to how people would be shifted to safer place in case floodwater coming from Shahdadkot-Qambar through Hammal Lake enters into their villages.

An ex-nazim of Chhinni, Bula Khan Shahani was aghast over the greed of transporters for charging Rs3,000 to Rs30,000 for the voyage from Chhinni to Dadu, which he said was beyond the capacity of poor villagers.

A resident of Sawaro Union Council, Allah Yar Rodhnani criticising the government over its lack of concern questioned as to how people would bear heavy transport charges when they were unable to buy even a loaf of bread.

Another resident of Kamal Khan Union Council, Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Rind fearing inundation of all villages of the UC wondered as to where all the people would be resettled as the administration has not set up any relief camps, as yet.

Abdul Ghaffar Dero said that Faridabad was in the front line of floodwater coming from Hammal Lake and Main Nara Valley and all its villages would face the onslaught for being located in low-lying area.

Another resident of Gozo town, Khaiprur Nathan Shah taluka enquired as to where people would be shifted as all government buildings and schools are filled up to the capacity with the IDPs, leaving no space for further entrants.

The DCO, Dadu, Mohammad Iqbal Memon said that transport would be provided to the people of three talukas in case of inundation from Qambar-Shahdadkot and mukhtiarkars have also been directed for providing all required facilities to the people of their talukas.

Former Sindh Chief Minister, Liaquat Ali Jatoi demanded of the government for construction of ring dykes around Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi, Mehar, Faridabad, Gozo and Johi towns and Dadu city.
