Snooker team for Asiad to be named next week

KARACHI, Sept 30: A five-member Pakistan snooker team for the upcoming Guangzhou Asian Games would be announced at the conclusion of the on-going Snooker Cup, president of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), Alamgir Shaikh, said on Thursday.

He disclosed that the selected cueists would attend a training camp at the Islamabad’s Sports Complex from Oct 15 to Nov 10 in preparation for the quadrennial Games.

The selection of five cueists is the prerogative of PBSA he said adding that they will be accompanied by two officials.

The PBSA official reiterated that he was still waiting for the government response pertaining to hiring of an Indian coach for a short stint.

To a question, he said whosoever attains No 1 and 2 national ranking at the conclusion of the ongoing third ranking event, will feature in the World snooker championship at Damascus after the games. “It’s their constitutional right,” he concluded.
