Qadri Model annex cricket title
KARACHI, Oct 7 Skipper Yasir Mushtaq inspired Qadri Model School to a five-wicket victory over Fahad Academy in the final and lift the HBL-KCCA Inter-school cricket title at the TMC Ground here on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Fahad Academy made 206 all out in 39.1 overs with Fareed Shah playing a fine hand with a knock of 71. Dawood Aziz (34) and Zia-ul-Haq (24) also batted well.
Medium-pacer Mohammad Aziz was the pick of Qadri Model School bowlers with figures of four for 49 while Khurram Shahzad took 2-35.
Yasir then played a match-winning innings of 82 as Qadri Model School reached their target of 207 in 39 overs for the loss of five wickets. Yasir was well supported by Saifullah Bangash (39), Mohammad Aziz (24) and Hamza Naqvi (23).
For Fahad Academy Amjad Khan claimed two for 34.
Prof S. Sirajul Islam Bukhari, President of the Karachi City Cricket Association, distributed the prizes after the match. While speaking on the occasion, he thanked Habib Bank Limited for sponsoring the tournament.
Cash win bonus of Rs25,000 and the winners trophy was presented to Qadri Model School skipper Yasir Mushtaq, who was adjudged winner of the Rs5,000 Man-of-the-Final award. Fahad Academy captain Mohammad Khan received the runners-up prize of Rs15,000 on behalf of his team.
Saifullah Bangash of Qadri Model School was declared best batsman and wicket-keeper of the tournament. His team-mate Affan Ahmed received the best bowler prize while Dawood Aziz of Fahad Academy won the best fielder award. All of them pocketed Rs5,000 each.
Meanwhile, the KCCA has requested winners of the individual awards of the preliminary round matches to receive their cash prizes of Rs.1000 each from the KCCA office located at the National Stadium.
