DADU: ‘Officials backing anti-PPP candidates’

DADU, Sept 17: The PPP candidate from PS-74 Dadu, Marvi Mazharul Haq, has complained to the visiting European Union mission that the district administration was supporting her rival candidate.

She was talking to the two-member European Union election observers mission which arrived here on Tuesday.

She told Alistair Robert Jordan of Britain and Manual Sanchez De Nogues of Spain that government officials were backing selected candidates in the district, which was evident from the fact that some officers of her rival candidates’ choice had been appointed there.

Ms Marvi accused the district officials of supporting the candidates opposed to those of the People’s Party Parliamentarians.

The EU mission also held meetings with the district returning officer (DRO) and the assistant election commissioner (ALC).

It was informed by the DRO, Hassan Feroze, that measures had been taken to hold free and fair general elections.

The district police officer, Ali Akbar Bhangwar, told the mission members that police would be deployed at 816 polling stations of the district.

The AEC, Syed Ghazanfar Abbas, briefed the delegation about the preparations for the election.
