Illegal occupants to be evicted from lodges

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday hinted at initiating an operation against the illegal occupants of Parliament Lodges.

Opposition leader in the NA, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while speaking on a point of order, drew the attention of the chair towards last week’s incident in which Senate Deputy Chairman Jan Mohammad Jamali, CDA director Mian Mohammad and magistrate Saqib Majid along with Senator Humayun Khan from Balochistan came over the lodge 105-J in use of PML-Q’s MNA Marvi Memon and broke into it to get it vacated.

The deputy speaker said the lodge was on Senate pool and allotted to Ms Memon’s father Nisar Memon when he was a senator. He said they had borrowed it from Deputy Chairman Senate for a brief period.

Mr Kundi denied that the luggage and belongings of the MNA were thrown out of the lodge. He directed the minister to vacate lodges and shift to the Minister’s Enclave.

The deputy speaker said that illegal occupants of the lodges were costing the government an additional Rs3.2million.Mr Khan again took the floor and asked the deputy speaker to initiate operation his party would support it. “Throw out the belongings of those who have occupied more than one lodge without considering party affiliation, the opposition leader added.

He also drew the attention of the deputy speaker towards roaming of private armed guards in the premises of the Parliament Lodges. These people, he said, were the biggest threats to the security.

He was of the view that only police were authorised to maintain security and patrolling the area. The deputy speaker assured that he would take action in this regard too.

Later, MNA Memon also spoke on the issue and refuted the deputy speaker’s claim that the said lodge was allotted to her father. She also showed the allotment letter saying that it was allotted to her in 2009.
