KARACHI: Pakistan’s ace cueist Muhammad Sajjad is confident of doing well in the IBSF World Snooker Championship which is scheduled to be held at Damascus (Syria) from Sunday, December 5.

"I lost in the last 32 round in India last year but this time I am looking to do even better,” the highly talented 25-year-old Sajjad, who finished runner-up in Asian championship in Bangkok earlier this year, said prior to his departure for Syrian capital on Thursday evening.

Sajjad, who was part of the Pakistan team which won the Asian Games bronze medal recently, said he was in a perfect frame mind for the upcoming event and will try his best to earn yet another honour for his country before the end of the year. “I have not been doing well after winning the nationals at home. But 2010 has been a really great year for me as I have performed well in international events and also won the ranking event in Bangkok,” he said.

Muhammad Sajjad, who was placed in Group “A” was optimistic of reaching the last 64 round as top four cueists from each group will qualify for the knock-out stage. “If I maintained good form and luck and draws favoure me in knock-out round, I have the capacity to win the event,” he said.

He said while Imran Shehzad will also be playing his second World Championship, Sohail Shahzad will be making his debut at that level. —APP
