Boy dies, 5 hurt in Peshawar bus blast

PESHAWAR, Dec 13: A teenager was killed and five other people were injured on Monday when a bomb struck a school bus on the Charkhana road near Peshawar Cantonment on Monday.

An official of the bomb disposal unit told that the explosive device had been planted in a garbage dump along a road in Jan Baghicha locality and was detonated by remote control at 2.30pm.

He said the device weighing about 6kg did not contain ball bearings. The blast created a wide crater at the spot.

The deceased was identified as Farooq, a student of class-VIII and part-time automobile mechanic. He hailed from Char Khakhel village. According to DCO Seraj Ahmed, Farooq was a passer-by.

The bus of the Islamia Model School was hit by the blast, injuring its driver, 35-year-old Gohar Ali, and a 9-year-old girl Aiman Gulzar. The other three injured were passers-by who were identified as Nauman, 25, Gulfaraz, 40, and Arsalan.

The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital and according to sources they all were stated to be in stable condition.

It was observed that policemen were pushing an abandoned Suzuki car bearing registration number QAF-7668 into a nearby plot. The car's number plate carried the name of one Zahed Khan.
