NAWABSHAH: Angry growers open regulator

NAWABSHAH, Sept 30: More than 100 growers of the Chun Bundhni minor, 72nd regulator, continued their sit-in protest against the shortage of irrigation water and rotation programme on the Jam Saheb-Nawabshah Road, on Monday.

The tail-end growers forcibly opened the gates of 72nd regulator on Monday to get irrigation water for their fields.

The protesters said the irrigation officials were involved in selling water to the influential landlords and were causing water shortage on pretext of enforcing the rotation programme.

They said they would continue their protest till their fields get water.

When contacted, the irrigation department told that the executive engineer, Nusrat division, had been transferred and the new XEN had yet not taken the charge.

The sources said that if the protesters continued getting water forcibly, the tail-end growers of the Sadawah minor would be badly affected.—Correspondent
