Unification Bloc team calls on CM

LAHORE, Jan 9: A delegation of the Unification Bloc, the dissident group of the Muslim League-Q in the Punjab Assembly, called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Raiwind on Sunday in the wake of new political developments taking place after a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif.

Mr Nawaz had the other day given an ultimatum to the Pakistan People's Party-led government in the centre to implement a 10-point reforms agenda within 45 days or face the opposition wrath.

The government was given a six-day notice to give a positive response to the agenda or else the PML-N would eliminate the PPP from the Punjab government.

The Unification Bloc is working as a standby arrangement to keep intact the N League's minority government in the province in case the PPP is shown the door.

Prime Minister Gilani phoned Nawaz Sharif and expressed his party's desire to work on reforms, subsiding the political crisis looming in the country, especially in Punjab.
