Religious scholars urged to help restore calm in Gilgit

GILGIT, Jan 21: The Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah held separate meetings on Friday with religious leaders representing all schools of thoughts and sought their active role to thwart nefarious designs of anti-social elements. Dawn

Officials who attended the meeting told that the meetings were held to seek religious leaders' feedback to know the weaknesses and how to improve these to ensure establishment of durable peace in the sensitive town of Gilgit.

The chief minister asked the religious scholars to come forward and play active role side by side the government so that those who try to disturb the peaceful environment could be thwarted.

The chief minister also urged the religious leaders to give their recommendations for eradicating criminals and militants from the society and assured the latter of honouring their valuable recommendations.
