Lyari Town beats Singloane to bag League crown

KARACHI: Lyari Town became the grand winner of the KESC Lyari Football League when they beat Singolane (UC-9) 4-1 in the final at the Peoples Sports Complex here on Monday.

The two weeks of grueling U-14 competition reached its peak as the two best teams from a total number of 16 clashed with Lyari Town clearly looking like the better team by keeping the ball possession for most of the time.

Lyari Town’s skipper Muneer Aftab, who also happens to be the Pakistan U-14 captain, led from the front by scoring the opener in the eighth minute which was soon equalised by Singolane’s winger Idrees Rehman in the 18th minute.

But Lyari Town gained advantage once again when midfielder Osama Raza’s long-range 35-metre drive bounced off the crossbar to end up inside the goal in the 29th minute and frontrunner Muneer Ahmed added another in the 35+2 injury time of the first half. Finally, winger Zohaib rounded off the tally for the winners in the 44th minute.

Lyari Town got the winners trophy with an envelope said to carry Rs1,00,000 as Singolane and the third-position team Bihar Colony (UC-7) were handed similar envelopes said to contain Rs50,000 and Rs25,000 respectively. Hub Balochistan got the Fair Play Trophy. Meanwhile, in the individual prizes the top scorer’s prize went to Singolane’s Idrees Rehman (seven goals), Kalakot’s Nauman Murad (best goalkeeper) and Lyari Town’s captain Muneer Aftab (Player of the Tournament). All were said to have been given Rs10,000 each.
