DEENA Mistri (lovingly called by many as Dinoo Aunty) was not only an educationist par excellence but a thorough disciplinarian and a true friend and mentor whose relationships with her students and their parents far outlived the time we all had spent in school.

I had the good fortune to know another side of Dinoo Aunty, i.e. her personal side as she was very close to my mother. She was kind, warm, full of life and vigour and, above all, possessed a very potent sense of humour.

She was one of those very few people that I have had the privilege to be associated with, who truly had a heart of gold. She was battling this huge scourge of cancer for very many years but was always her normal smiling self.

I remember the time I went to see her in hospital when she had broken her arm and was absolutely in awe when she was laughing and joking and showed no signs of pain or discomfort.

Kudos to her for leading an institution and teaching till the last years of her life. It can be reliably said that it was because of her hard work and sacrifices the Virbaijeeites are placed in very high positions all over the world.

Many like me will truly miss this wonderful lady. May her soul rest in eternal peace and give immense strength and courage to her sons and entire family to bear this colossal loss.

A disciplinarianTHERE are few people in Pakistan whose services are greater than Deena Mistry. She dedicated her life to teaching and spreading the message of love. She had an illustrious career as an educationist and she was regarded by many as their guru.

She was the great granddaughter of the founder of BVS Parsi High School. She did her BA (Hons) from Bombay University in 1945. She joined the school in 1951 as a teacher and she was the only woman lady teacher in the school.

After 21 years of dedicated service she became the principal of the school.

The government of Sindh awarded “The best school of the Millennium” to BVS School during her reign. She was awarded the Pride of Performance award in 2002.

She retired in 2004 and was given a rousing farewell by the school management and the alumni of the school.
