PHF unlikely to retain Zeeshan as captain

LAHORE, March 2: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) may not continue with Zeeshan Ashraf as captain of the national team after the Olympian announced his entry into the political arena by joining Pakistan Muslim League-N along with ex-skipper Mohammad Saqlain on Tuesday. Dawn

Sources told that since it was the first ever instance of a current hockey player joining the national politics, the PHF was rather puzzled about how to react on the issue what affect will it have on the team. However, the sources said the PHF was upset over Zeeshan's decision and may not retain him as skipper for the upcoming Azlan Shah Cup.

Zeeshan and Saqlain met the PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Tuesday to formally join the party.

However, Zeeshan later said that hockey was his passion and he would continue to play the game.

Sources further said that Zeeshan was well aware about a strict action from the PHF against his decision and was mentally prepared to quit the national team, if he was forced for it.

Zeeshan is also upset about the fact that despite being the captain of the Pakistan team, he has not been able to get a permanent job in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
