Canada to host women’s football World Cup in 2015
ZURICH: Canada will host women’s football World Cup in 2015, world football’s governing body, FIFA, said on Thursday.
“I am happy to announce that the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015... for the first time also with 24 teams, has been attributed to the CSA, the Canadian Soccer Association,” FIFA president Sepp Blatter told journalists.
The decision was made by FIFA’s executive committee during a meeting at its headquarters in Zurich.
Germany is due to host the women’s World Cup 2011 in June, with half a million tickets already sold by late last month, amid growing popularity of women’s football, according to the organisers.
The opening match between Germany and Canada at the 74,228-capacity Olympic Stadium in the capital Berlin is expected to be a sell out.
