PML(N) candidate booked in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Oct 10: The PML-N candidate for NA-96, Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan, was booked for beating up two PPP activists and indulging in propaganda against an opponent in separate cases.

Sources said Mr Khurram’s father, former federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan, was kept in police custody for an hour when his son and 15 others beat up two PPP workers at a polling station on Thursday.

Mr Khurram, his uncle former mayor Ghulam Qadir Khan, and 14 others including a former MPA were booked for terrorist activities.

The injured were admitted to the DHQ Hospital.

Earlier, Mr Khurram was booked for getting a provocative pamphlet published about a rival candidate late Wednesday night. The publisher was also booked and the printing press sealed.

Sources said the PML-N candidate falsely claimed in the pamphlet that MMA candidate Maulana Qazi Hamid Ullah had retired in his favour. He distributed copies of the pamphlet in the city.

When MMA activists came to know about the pamphlet, they attacked the printing press, which was located at Nomania Road, and took out a procession to protest against the PML-N candidate’s move.

On coming to know about the incident, a heavy contingent of police raided the place, sealed the printing press and confiscated all material.

Later, the police registered a case against Mr Khurram and publisher Mohammad Asad Mahmood of Noor Bawa. However, nobody was arrested in this case.
