Cameron Munter meets Salman Bashir, urges Davis’ release

ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on Thursday met with Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, DawnNews reported.

The two discussed the issue of US national Raymond Davis and the overall standing of the US-Pakistan ties, sources told DawnNews.

Sources said Munter reiterated the United States' demand to release Davis, a CIA contractor who shot dead two Pakistani citizens on January 27.

Munter said the United States was hopeful that Davis would soon be released, sources said. Whereas, Bashir said the issue was in the courts which would decide Davis’ future.

The meeting came soon after a resolution was moved in the US House of Representatives urging Pakistan to release Davis or brace itself for a freeze on all monetary assistance.

“The House of Representatives calls on the government of Pakistan to release Raymond Davis…until such time, all US monetary assistance to Pakistan should be frozen,” says the resolution, moved by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican.
