PML-Q grabs 3 NA, 5 PA seats in Attock

ATTOCK, Oct 11: PML-Q has routed three major parties by grabbing two National and four provincial assembly seats of the Attock district

This proved to be a major setback to the three major contesting parties, PML-N, PPP and MMA, who could not win a single seat of the district.

Eight candidates were in the run for three NA-57, NA-58 and NA-59. Of the total votes 394,767 were polled; 11,266 were rejected and the turnout remained 52.34 per cent.

According to the political analysts, PML-Q’s Malik Amin Aslam, former minister Malik Allah Yar Khan, Eman Waseem and Pir Abbas Mohiuddin are expected to win their seats of NA-57, NA-58, NA-59 and PP-19 respectively.

Major upsets were witnessed in PP-15, PP-16, PP-17, and PP-18 where PML-Q’s Sardar Humayun Akbar, Shujah Khanzada, Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan and Malik Muhammad Anwer succeeded unexpectedly because their opponents Syed Ejaz Bukhari of MMA, Qari Attiqur Rehman of MMA, Maj Attique Afzal of PPP and Sardar Saleem Haider of PPP respectively were being considered strong candidates.

According to the unofficial results declared by the district returning officer, in NA-57 Attock-I, Malik Amin Aslam of PML-Q has won with overwhelming majority by scoring 39,735 votes while six other candidates, Sheikh Suleman Sarwar (PML-N) has obtained 23,866 votes, Hafiz Saeed Ahmed (MMA) 23,865, Sheikh Ehsanuddin Advocate (PPP) 9,505, Mehboob Ahmed Qadri (PAT) 2,041, Aftab Khan Verdik (TI) 2,276 and Muhammad Asghar Khan (Independent) 684 votes.

In this constituency, 105,729 votes were polled at the 242 polling stations out of a total registered votes of 243,306 with 43.46 per cent turnout; 3,766 votes were rejected.

In NA-58 Attock-II, PML-Q’s former minister Malik Allah Yar Khan won the contest by bagging 89,108 votes against his rival Malik Sohail of PML-N who scored 40,897 votes; Sardar Iftikhar Ali Khan (PPP) got 9974, Syed Abdul Salam Hassan Raza Naqvi, MMA, 9125; Sardar Muhammad Khalid (PAT) and Muhammad Amin Gulial (PTI) 1,427 votes.

The total registered votes in this constituency were 274,639 out of which 156,440 were polled at 271 polling stations; 5,068 were rejected and the turnout remained 56.96 per cent.

In NA-59 Attock-III, Eman Waseem, daughter of District Nazim Maj Tahir Sadiq Khan, won her seat by obtaining 65,576 votes while Dr Sikandar Hayat Khan (PPP), Lt-Col Muhammad Pervez Khan (PML-N) and Muhammad Haleem Advocate (MMA) scored 41,731, 12,874, 6,914 and 3,071 respectively.

In this constituency the total registered votes were 236,272 out of it 132,598 were polled at 253 stations, 2,432 were rejected and the turnout remained 56.12 per cent.

While 29 aspirants were contesting for the five provincial assembly seats of PP-15, PP-16, PP-17, PP-18 and PP-19, where 396,507 votes were polled and 13,005 were rejected; the turnout remained 52.57 per cent.

In PP-15 Attock-1, PML-Q’s Sardar Humayun Akbar Khan won by only 20 votes against his rival MMA candidate Syed Ejaz Bukhari, who got 23,562 votes, followed by five other aspirants, Shahan Malik (PPP) with 77,740 votes, Dr Waseem Saddique 5,755, Capt Muhammad Iqbal of PAT, 748, Nuzakat Khan (Independent) 478 and Prof Naseem Ahmed 237 votes; 433 postal ballots are not included which will later be included in the final result therefore, unofficial result could be changed in this constituency after the counting of said postal ballots because winning candidate has a lead of only 20 votes against runner up candidate.

In this constituency 64,785 votes were polled against total registered votes of 134,126 while 2,599 were rejected and the turnout was 48 per cent.

In PP-16, Attock-II, Col Shujah Khanzada of PML-Q grabbed his seat by scoring 19,417 votes against Qari Attiqur Rehman of MMA who got 15,067 votes; Shaukat Zaman of PML-N got 8,906, Dr Naeem Ahmed Awan of PPP, 3,532; Sajjad Ahmed Khan of PAT, 2,297; Sarfraz Khan (Independent), 569; and Zamarud Khan of National Alliance 560.

In this constituency, 55,552 votes were polled out of the total 134,873 registered votes of which 2094 were rejected and the turnout remained 41.19 per cent.

In PP-17, Attock III, PML-Q’s Sardar Muhammad Ali won the election by scoring 41,747 votes while the other five candidates, including Maj Attique Afzal of PPP got 25,571 votes; Saddique Awan of PML-N, 8,116; Mudassar Zaman (Independent) 4,385; Sajjad Mehmood Qadri Advocate of MMA, 4,206 and Amjad Khan of PTI 3,454 votes.

In this constituency 89,855 votes were polled against total 165,046 registered votes at the 180 polling stations out of which 2,376 votes were rejected and the turnout remained 54.44 per cent.

In PP-18 Attock IV, Malik Muhammad Anwer of PML-Q won the election by bagging 51,720 votes against his rival Sardar Saleem Haider of PPP who got 36,857 votes while Asif Ali Malik of PML-N got 10,005 and Hafiz Attaur Rehman of MMA 3,888 votes.

In this constituency, 105,925 votes were polled out of a total 177,491 registered votes at 174 polling stations; 3,455 votes were rejected and the turnout remained 59.67 per cent.

In PP-19 Attock V, Pir Syed Abbas Mohiuddin of PML-Q scored 45,128 votes defeating Sardar Shah Nawaz Khan (PML-N), Syed Ayaz Mehmood Shah (PPP) and Abdul Hakeem of MMA with 18,420, 7,113 and 7,250 votes, respectively.

In this constituency, 80,392 voters exercised their franchise out of a total 142,941 registered voters while 2,481 votes were rejected so the turnout remained 56.24 per cent.

Counting of postal ballots will be carried out on Saturday, at morning by the respective returning officers and final result of all constituencies of the district will be announced by the District Returning officer on the same day.
