PPP candidate triumphs in Murree
MURREE, Oct 11: The candidate of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Ghulam Murtaza Satti, defeated Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in NA-50 constituency by a margin of 10,465 votes.
Mr Satti secured 74,250 votes while Shahid Khaqan bagged 63,785 votes. The PPP has won a seat in Murree after 25 years.
In PP-1, Shafqat Abbasi advocate of PPP defeated Qari Saifullah Saifi of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA).
Mr Abbasi polled 29,064 votes while Qari Saifullah secured 26,205 votes. Col Riaz Satti (retired) of the Pakistan Muslim League-N obtained 24,853 votes, Haji Rasheed of Pakistan Awami Tehrik secured 4,369 votes, Sumera Satti, an independent candidate, 1,189; and Raja Rabnawaz, 433 votes.
In PP-2, PML-N’s candidate Raja Mohammad Ali, son of Raja Zafarul Haq, emerged as the winner.
The overall turnout recorded in NA-50 was 45 per cent. However, the turnout in the city areas remained low whereas about 30 to 35 per cent was reported in the villages.
As many as 212 polling stations were established in Murree and Kahuta tehsils where polling was conducted in a peaceful manner. No untoward incident was reported.
