QUETA, March 20: The coordination committee set up by different political parties to raise a joint voice against targeted killings and kidnappings in Balochistan has held the government responsible for the deteriorating state of law and order in the province and said that political forces could not be a silent spectator to the situation.

Expressing concern over the situation at a meeting on Saturday night, the political parties and other groups said that the government was least interested in curbing targeted killings, abduction for ransom and robberies.

National Party (NP) leader Dr Hayee Baloch presided over the meeting of the committee that was attended by the representatives of BNP-Mengal, ANP, Jamaat-i-Islami, Hazara Democratic Party, Balochistan Bar Association and Anjuman Tajran Balochistan.

The participants decided to formulate a joint strategy to mobilise people to counter anti-social elements that have made people's lives miserable.

The meeting condemned the alleged military operation, extra-judicial killings, murder of political workers and other people whose mutilated bodies are found dumped along roads and desolate places, raids on the houses of political workers and unlawful arrests.

The participants alleged that the establishment was a big hurdle in the way of resolving the Balochistan issue. They said that political issues could be resolved only through political means, warning that use of 'state violence' would only complicate the situation.

According to a statement, the meeting expressed anger over the government's silence on the issue of missing persons.

They said the families concerned were going through unspeakable pain and called upon on the government to recover their near and dear ones without delay.

The participants decided to hold a meeting on March 24 at the MPA Hostel to finalise the strategy for joint struggle against the lawlessness.
