MMA wins Chitral seat

CHITRAL, Oct 12: The lone National Assembly seat of Chitral, NA-32, went to Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal candidate and a leader of Jamaat-i-Islami, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali.

The MNA-elect is the uncle of the late Maulana Abdur Rahim Chitrali, who had won the seat in 1993 general elections.

MMA candidates Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and Maulana Abdur Rahman, got comfortable lead over their opponents in the contest for NA-32 and PF-89, Chitral-I, respectively, while Maulana Mohammad Jahangir won PF-90, Chitral-II, with a narrow margin of 180 votes. His closest rival was Shahzada Nisar of People’s Party Parliamentarians.

The three members-elect addressed a big rally at the Polo Ground here and thanked their electorates for reposing trust in the religious parties’ alliance.

They said that unlike in the past, no opponent would be victimized on political grounds, vowing that the politics of commissions and kickbacks would be weeded out.

They also renewed the pledge to make the government employees and police the real servants of the people.
