Punjab govt still possesses Davis’ passport: Sanaullah

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Sunday revealed that the provincial government had in possession the passport of Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor who shot dead two youths in Lahore and later left Pakistan after his release by a court through the payment of 'blood money' to the heirs of the victims.

Sanaullah said that the Punjab government had fulfilled all the legal and constitutional requirements in the Davis case.

Had the Punjab government not taken a clear stand on the issue, an FIR would not have been lodged against Davis, the law minister said.

The Punjab government not only followed the rules and registered an FIR but also presented a challan of the case in the court, he added.

Sanaullah once again claimed that the provincial government had not played any role in the release of Davis through payment of blood money.

He blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for the acceptance of blood money by the heirs and said that Khan politicised the issue by arranging rallies and using it for his own purposes.
