Former Haripur nazim shot dead in UAE
HARIPUR, April 2: The former tehsil nazim and a local leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, was shot dead by an unidentified person in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, family sources said.
The deceased was on bail from Peshawar High Court in the murder case of former provincial minister and ANP MPA Akhtar Nawaz Khan. He was running a construction company in Ajman.
Family sources said that he was on way along with his younger brother Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan to the construction site of a project when an unidentified person opened firing on him and killed him o the spot.
“They stopped their car near the house of a relative and Zulfiqar got out when an unidentified assassin, who was chasing them, shot dead Iftikhar,” they added.
He received five bullets in his head, Zulfiqar told his family back home in Khalabat Township.
Zulfiqar was quoted as saying that Ajman police had registered a case and investigation was underway. The body was expected to be handed over to the heirs after completion of legal formalities.
It may be recalled that Iftikhar Ahmed Khan was main accused in Akhtar Nawaz Khan murder case. Akhtar Nawaz was shot dead on September 10, 2008 when he was on the way home after attending a funeral in Khalabat Township.
Iftikhar, then a tehsil nazim, was nominated in the case along with his brother, father and some other relatives. Iftikhar, who was suspended from his office by the provincial government, escaped but was arrested from Jinnah Airport Karachi on January 27, 2009.—Correspondent
