Kohat has enough oil, gas to end power crisis

KOHAT, April 11: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar on Monday said that the huge oil and gas reserves of Kohat could be used to end electricity loadshedding and joblessness in the country.

“Huge reserves of natural resources have been discovered in Kohat and more findings are expected, which will help in ending loadshedding and improving economic situation of the country,” the governor said while talking to a delegation of Pakistan People's Party here at the commissioner house.

In response to demands of the delegation, led by district PPP president Abdur Rauf advocate, Mr Kausar said that a summary had been prepared to upgrade the KDA divisional headquarters hospital to category 'A' and provide gas to the whole region from the local fields.

The governor said that he would soon get approval for these projects during Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's visit to Peshawar.

He also met with the suspended office-bearers of district PPP, including Nadir Khan Khattak, and asked the workers to support the leaders in revival of the party.

Earlier, the governor attended the convocation ceremony at Kohat University of Science and Technology as a chief guest and awarded degrees and gave gold medals to 31 position-holder students.

He said that the growing trend of militancy in the society could be effectively checked through education.

SMALL DAMS: Provincial housing minister Amjad Khan Afridi has said that three more small dams will be constructed in different areas of Kohat, which will meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the population.

“Feasibility reports of three small dams are almost ready and with construction of these dams people will be able to attain a sufficient level of food security,” Mr Afridi said while speaking at a gathering in Gumbat town.

He also inaugurated a newly-built government primary school in Ghaziabad. The minister also announced Rs1.5 million for repair of road connecting Gandiali village with main Rawalpindi road, desiltation of irrigation line, construction of 7-kilometer water supply line and a new road from Ghaziabad to Narikak. — Correspondent
