Two militants killed in Mohmand clashes

GHALANAI, April 18: Two militants were killed and one security man sustained injuries during clashes in different areas of Mohmand tribal region on Monday.

Sources said that two militants were killed in exchange of fire with security forces in Koz Chamarkand area of tehsil Safi. One security man was also injured in the clash. The injured soldier was shifted to Peshawar.

Security forced claimed that Ghalingar area was under their control after it was cleared of militants.

Meanwhile, political administration with support of tribal elders destroyed poppy crops on around 600 kanals in Ambar tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Monday. Assistant Political Agent Rasool Khan said that tribal people destroyed poppy on voluntarily basis and decided that they would not grow the crops in future.

In Kurram Agency, unidentified militants shot dead a tribesman identified as Imdad Hussain in Hewas village on Monday evening. Tense calm prevailed in the region as the peace deal was becoming ineffective owing to incidents of violence and kidnapping, residents said.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested a commander of Orakzai Taliban along with his accomplice from a clinic in Kohat on Monday.

Intelligence agencies received information that Abdul Akbar, a commander of Taliban in Orakzai Agency, was present in a dental clinic near tehsil municipal administration for his treatment. β€œHe belongs to Ali Khel tribe of Dabori in Orakzai Agency and is commander of Hakeemullah Mehsud group of Taliban,” Fazal Naeem, an official, told Dawn .

He was whisked away to undisclosed location for interrogation by an investigation team along with his accomplice, whose name could not be ascertained. The unidentified accomplice of Abdul Akbar was stated to be an ordinary member of Taliban.
