Save Wildlife & Nature (SWAN) held a sitting at Alhamra Art Center, The Mall, on Thursday in connection with the day.

Speaking on the occasion, SWAN president Gazanfar Ali Langah said for past 200 years man had been conquering Nature, but now we had started beating it to death.

He said it was high time that we should join hands and do something to save our eco-system before we cross the point of no return.

He said the concern for Nature and wildlife had assumed urgency due to the grim realisation of the tragic depletion of the both and consequent threat it posed to human quality of life and environment.

Mr Langah said flora and fauna preceded human beings on the planet and provided for us an environment where we could thrive in a delicately balanced interdependent and symbolic co-existence.

Senior wildlife experts Ashiq Ahmed Khan and Malik Amin Aslam also spoke on the occasion.

Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.
