Khosa’s tribute to Benazir
LAHORE, May 3: Governor Sardar Latif Khosa said on Tuesday Benazir Bhutto made her mark in the world only because of her modern education, adding that she was a role model for women of today in the country.
Addressing the 10th convocation of the University of Central Punjab, Mr Khosa said that Shaheed Benazir worked for education and emancipation of women, stressing that female education in the country was vital for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
The governor said it was time to pay attention to the intellectual growth of women who were the first school of a child as a mother, adding that women had proved their potential in all fields considered as the domains of the male in the past.
Mr Khosa said Islam emphasises the need for learning and the first revelation to the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be upon him) also signified the importance of acquiring knowledge.
The governor underlined the need of high literacy rate in the country, adding that Pakistan must follow suit of friendly country Sri Lanka where literacy rate was 92 per cent.
The governor said girls notched up top positions in various examinations every year and they had made great achievements in every field of life from academia to sports. — APP
