CJP promises to elevate lawyers as judges
LAHORE, May 5: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has promised to the Lahore High Court Bar Association to fill vacancy of judges in the high court by elevating professional lawyers, especially from Lahore. On bar's invitation the CJP also agreed to visit the bar soon, said a press release issued by LHCBA secretary Arshad Malik Awan.
A delegation of LHCBA office bearers had called on the Justice Chaudhry in Islamabad to convey him lawyers' concern on recommendation of sessions judges for LHC judges by judicial commission in place of lawyers.
Bar leaders also requested the CJP to constitute a bench of SC at the Lahore registry on a permanent basis to reduce huge backlog of cases and dispense justice expeditiously.
The CJP keenly heard suggestions of bar representatives and assured them of materializing the same, the press release added.
LHCBA president Asghar Ali Gill, vice-president Mian Muhammad Jahangir and finance secretary Mian Muhammad Azam were among the delegation.
