Larkana board seeks Rangers` help
LARKANA, May 14: The management of the Larkana Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) has sought Rangers' help to check 'meddling by outsiders' in the upcoming examinations for Higher Secondary Certificate (Part-I and II) starting from May 16.
Sources in the board said on Saturday that BISE chairman Sayed Ali Shah Bukhari wrote on May 4 to the principal secretary to governor of Sindh and home secretary, that since most of examination centers were located in remote areas it was essential to deploy Rangers there to avoid expected interference by outsiders and ensure smooth conduct of examination.
He also requested for escort during his visits to centres in sensitive areas. A total of 79 centres had been set up in Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmor, Kandhokot, Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah and 44,000 candidates would appear in the examinations which would continue till May 28, said the chairman.
The chairman also wrote a letter to the chief executive of the Sukkur Electric Supply Company and requested him for uninterrupted power supply during examinations.
He has also approached home secretary for police deployment at the centres to check outsiders' interference during examination. The presence of Rangers would, the chairman said, help maintain sanctity of examinations.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to rectify past mistakes, the board's management held a pre-examination meeting with leaders of SPLA and internal and external superintendents of examinations at Government Pilot Secondary School on Saturday.
The meeting presided over by secretary of the BISE decided to toughen measures to end the trend of impersonation in examinations.
Syed Asghar Shah, vice-president of SPLA, severely criticised use of unfair means in exams and praised the board for holding the meeting to avoid past mistakes.
He said that it was high time to correct shortcomings and proposed holding a pre-assessment meeting of all head examiners to ensure transparent assessment of theory papers.
He said the SPLA had proposed to discontinue duties of professors with tainted record.
