Former New Zealand wicket-keeper Parore scales Everest
WELLINGTON: Former New Zealand test cricketer Adam Parore has climbed Mount Everest.
The 40-year-old Parore, who played 78 tests and 179 one-day internationals as a wicketkeeper-batsman, reached the summit of the world's tallest mountain on Saturday, succeeding at his second attempt after previously being forced back by bad weather.
Parore was accompanied to the summit by three guides, 10 Sherpas and seven other climbers on a commercial climb.
He hoped to raise 100,000 New Zealand dollars ($79,000) for a children's charity.
Parore told New Zealand media he ran out of oxygen and spent only 20 to 30 minutes on the summit. He said “I took a few photos but I wanted to come back. It is very exposed and a long way down.”
