PMA objects to Multan Road flyover

LAHORE, May 22: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has demanded of the Punjab government stop the construction of an overhead bridge at the entrance of the Social Security Hospital on Multan Road, which would lead to traffic jams besides hampering the movement of ambulances and inconveniencing patients.

In a statement issued on Sunday, PMA Punjab president Dr Ashraf Nizami and PMA Lahore president Dr Tanveer Anwar said that the construction of overhead bridge right in front of the main gate of Social Security Hospital was being made despite reservations of the hospital administration and its employees that showed apathy of the government.

They said that the proposed overhead bridge site was some yards away from the hospital but the design was changed overnight perhaps to facilitate some influential people on political grounds.

They said that flyover in front of the hospital would double the miseries of patients as they were already facing huge problems due to traffic congestion on Multan Road, one of the busiest arteries of the city.

The PMA has demanded that the flyover site plan be changed in the larger interest of patients for their easy and quick access to the hospital.
