Timeline of recent attacks targeting Pakistan Navy

May 22, 2011: Armed militants stormed into the Mehran naval airbase in Karachi. The militants killed at least 13 people and wounded 16 others. Two aircraft were also destroyed in the attack. The attack began after militants managed to sneak into the base from three different directions and carried out a simultaneous attack on different targets. The assault lasted through Sunday night and continued Monday morning. Around 13:30 on Monday, a navy spokesman said the navy appeared to have regained control of the base. The spokesman said commandos were still searching the sprawling facility. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack earlier in the day, which they said was carried out to avenge the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2.  (Details and casualty figures are inconclusive at this point)

April 28, 2011: At least four Pakistan Navy personnel and a civilian were killed and eight other people were wounded in a bomb attack targeting a navy bus in Karachi. The bus was coming from PNS Mehran and was taking the navy personnel to Dockyard. The explosion took place as the bus was about to join the main Sharae Faisal. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

April 26, 2011: At least four people were killed and 56 others were injured when two buses carrying Pakistan Navy personnel came under bomb attacks in Karachi. The Taliban claimed responsibility of the attacks. The first bombing took place on the 7th Central Street outside the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in the Defence Housing Authority Phase II. The attack killed two people and wounded at least 37. The second bus carrying Navy personnel was attacked on Northern Bypass in the city’s Baldia Town.
