Five men held for targeted killings

KARACHI, May 29: The CID police on Sunday disclosed the arrest of five suspects claiming that they were involved in different acts of targeted killing in the city.

Addressing a press conference, SP Umar Shahid and SP Aslam Khan disclosed the details of a joint interrogation report pertaining to suspect Muntazar Imam Zaidi.

They said that the suspect had been arrested and had confessed to having killed Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem and his son in an attack on March 14, 2010 near A.O. Clinic in Nazimabad.

The cleric’s two other sons and two security guards were also wounded in the attack.

The suspect also confessed to the targeted killing of Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Madni and other killings with the assistance of his accomplices, the police claimed.

Informing journalists about four alleged activists of the Sunni Tehrik, SP Aslam Khan said that the four suspects — Jawad alias Waja, Waqas alias Wiki, Ahsan and Aqeel — had been arrested by the Soldier Bazaar police about a week ago.

Subsequently, they were handed over to the CID police who interrogated them at length, he said.

During the interrogation they confessed that they had killed around 12 to 14 people in different parts of the city, including MQM workers, he added.

The police also recovered arms and ammunition on information provided by the accused, he said.

The four suspects were arrested by the Solider Bazaar police during regular checking and during which the suspects had also put up resistance, he said.
