Kisan Board protests wheat policy

LAHORE, May 29: Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) officials have criticised the government’s wheat policy calling it a useless one for the agriculture sector of the country, says a press release.

In a meeting held here on Sunday, office bearers said the rulers had failed to eliminate the role of commission agents buying wheat at Rs800 to 850 per 40 kg from farmers.

“The wrong policy has not only caused a loss of Rs28 billion to farmers but has also strengthen the commission mafia,” KBP President Sardar Zafar Husain said.

He said farmers had protested the unfair distribution of gunny bags but the government responded with deaf ears.

He demanded that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif immediately ensure fair distribution of gunny bags.
