Strike in Karachi against loadshedding

KARACHI: A strike against loadshedding in Karachi was being observed in the city on Friday, DawnNews reported.

The strike call had been given by several political parties, trade union organisations and other groups against loadshedding and the KESC's management of its employees.

Incidents of firing had also been reported in certain areas of the city in which seven people had been injured and several cars set alight.

Ealirer on Thursday, unknown miscreants attacked the Clifton grid station, disabling several feeders that served Boat Basin, Shirin Jinnah Colony and parts of the port area.

The general secretary of the People’s Workers Union denied that KESC’s employees were indulging in such acts and alleged that the management, in connivance with those who were not supporting the workers’ protest, were deliberately creating a crisis to blackmail the government into taking action against the labourers.

He alleged that the KESC management was incapable of defending its strategic installations and the government should take serious note of the absence of adequate security arrangements. He said the management had no sympathy for the people of Karachi.
