Swabi residents protest power outage

SWABI, June 7: Residents of Chota Lahor on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Adina-Yar Hussain road for nearly two hours against the excessive power outages.

The residents gathered in Chota Lahor city and marched to Adina-Yar Hussain road, blocking it for all kinds of traffic. Commuters suffered a lot due to blockade of road and scorching heat and pleaded with the protesters to open the road but to no effect.

The protesters also lashed out at the local lawmakers for taking no interest in solution of their problems.

The demonstrators said whenever the summer turned ruthless the Pesco resorted to prolonged loadshedding due to which they were also facing shortage of drinking water, and had sleepless nights.

They asked the PPP-ANP coalition government to step down after failing to provide masses basic amenities of life.

Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully after being assured by the officials of the district administration that the loadshedding schedule would be revised by the Pesco. KILLED:

Two people were killed and one injured in two separate incidents on Tuesday. Police said an aged woman drowned in Pehur High Level Canal. Her body was retrieved and handed over to family. She was identified as wife of Akram Shah and resident of Bamkhel.

In Kalu Khan, a man was shot dead and a woman injured by their relatives over a family dispute. HELD:

The police arrested three car-lifters and recovered a vehicle from them, which was snatched from a person in Punjab province and brought to the district, said the police.

The SHO of Zaida police station told Dawn on Tuesday the police arrested Said Mahmood, Pervez Khan and Abid Khan during a raid at their hideout.—Correspondent
