Poet Hassan Dars dies in accident

HYDERABAD, June 16: A promising Sindhi poet Hassan Dars died after suffering serious wounds in an accident in the wee hours of Thursday.

As he lay in his car bleeding to death, Qasimabad and GOR police were busy bickering over jurisdiction which delayed his being taken to a hospital. He was 43.

He was later brought to the hospital by participants of a wedding party at around 4am.

He was going home to Citizen Colony from GOR area when his car hit a median, causing him serious injuries. A watchman of a filling station informed Qasimabad police about the incident.

Police arrived there but did not take the injured Dars to hospital because of the issue of jurisdiction, which delayed his immediate shifting and he died for loss of blood.

Hyderabad DPO Farid Jan Sarhandi has suspended SHO of Qasimabad Gulshan Mahar over negligence.

According to the SHO of GOR police station Irfan Bhatti, GOR mobile reached there at 4.20 am but by then he had succumbed to his wounds while being taken to the hospital. “No vehicle hit his car. In fact he himself was driving the car and hit a median on the road,” said the SHO.

Dars has left behind a widow, two sons and a daughter.

He was born in September 1968. He studied in Muslim College and did his masters from Sindh University.

Sindhica Academy has published a book on 10 emerging poets of Sindh which includes his name. The book quotes legendary poet Sheikh Ayaz describing him as a leading poet of future generations of Sindh.

Dars originally hailed from Mashaikh Hoti village in Tando Allahyar. He was laid to rest in his native village. His funeral was attended by a large number of his community fellows, friends and followers.

Dars used to write in a local Sindhi newspaper and was associated with UNDP's small grants project on old local breed of Sindhi hoarse.
