PLF holds demo against Sanaullah

LAHORE, June 20: The People's Lawyers Forum (PLF) on Monday held a demonstration at GPO Chowk against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for giving a statement that Babar Awan was liable to be killed.

Besides members of the forum, deputy attorneys general Mushtaq Awan, Shaista Qaiser, Ziaul Qamar Bhatti, Aazar Latif, Naseem Kashmiri and Ilyas Khan and Lahore High Court Bar Association president Asghar Ali Gill participated in the demonstration.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against Sanaullah and demanded of the government to remove him.

They also urged the Punjab Bar Council to cancel practicing licence of Sanaullah.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday dismissed a writ petition seeking registration of a criminal case against Rana..

At the outset, petitioner-advocate Ansar Mehmood was asked by the court to establish that he was an aggrieved party in the case.

After hearing his arguments, Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry remarked that the petitioner had no right to file the instant petition and the petition was merely based on apprehensions. “If Awan has some grievances against the law minister, he should approach the court directly,” the chief justice observed while dismissing the petition.
